Turbulence analysis using nacelle-lidar

Project description:

The project aims at utilizing measurements from nacelle lidars to characterize atmospheric turbulence under inhomogeneous inflow conditions. In the last couple of years, methods have been devised to characterize turbulence with measurements from forward-looking nacelle lidars, but those assume that the inflow turbulence is homogeneous. Such an assumption is not valid for modern wind turbines as they are nowadays operating in the atmosphere over 200 meters, where turbulence can largely vary with height. Besides, wind turbines are often deployed inside wind farms, where the inflow is highly inhomogeneous and turbulent. In this project, the retrieved high-order wind field characteristics of inhomogeneous turbulence will be applied to wind turbine control and wake modelling.
