The project focuses on the application of Lidar technology to gather wind data suitable for planning and design of long-span bridges. The objective is to aid in the development of novel lidar technology for wind engineering applications within the field of bridge engineering. This entails the characterization of atmospheric turbulence conditions along bridges spanning several kilometers in complex fjord environment as well as specifying related wind loading information for the design and construction of long-span bridges. Wind lidar measurements from the existing bridges will also play an important role for the validation of the numerical models for wind-induced bridge response. This is important both to ensure adequate structural safety as well as to limit the costs.
