Isadora Limas Coimbra

University and Institute
University of Porto, Faculty of Engineering

Start date:
14 September 2020

Background:
I am Isadora Limas Coimbra, born and raised in Brazil, in a small coastal city from the State of Santa Catarina. In 2015, I concluded my undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Florianópolis - Brazil, including a one year and four month’s stay at the University of Calgary (2012/2013), Canada. My master’s degree (2018), also in Mechanical Engineering at UFSC, focused on wind energy prediction using the Weather Research and Forecasting model and Artificial Neural Networks. Afterwards, I started working at Camargo-Schubert Wind Engineering, a Brazilian energy consultancy, with the wind energy resource. After almost two years working in the wind energy industry, I decided to take the next step in my researcher career by starting a PhD at the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto and being part of the LIKE researchers' team.

Motivation:
I have always believed in sustainable development. All the research projects that I have worked with have that in common, even the first one back in 2010. In 2014, when I started working with wind energy as an undergraduate researcher, I remember thinking how wonderful this technology was in a way that people could use it in their houses and daily activities, without the harms of pollutant emissions. I have been amazed by how the wind can move and change from place to place, being one of a kind. Thus, working with Lidar technology as part of the LIKE project allows me to really dive into the wind flow research, studying how to better measure it and simulate it. So, what motivates me? My passion for the wind and the confidence that I am working with something that can help to build a better future.
